24 Beartooths

We swung back to Glacier, went over the Going to the Sun Road completely, and again without a reservation. We camped at Two Medicine just before it closed for the season, again without a reservation! And then we backtracked on the Going to the Sun Road, and then re-backtracked, and then re-re-backtracked. So we crossed the summit a total of 4 times. You shouldn’t do that in a 3/4-ton vehicle. Too big. You want something small and grippy, with a low center of gravity. The road was built during the Depression, and the lanes are narrow, and twisty, and I never want to drive them again.

Then we headed down to Yellowstone. We took the Beartooth Highway, which is also a twisty road over an incredible alpine pass, but the lanes are much wider and less dangling by a thread.
