We left Mary’s dad’s place with the idea of following the Mississippi River north. The first planned stop was Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa. In the early 2000’s I saw a show on the History Channel or somesuch about these Native American mounds that are shaped like animals. I didn’t realize that they were using computer-generated imagery when they showed a road going beside the mounds, and mounds that looked exactly like the animals they were portraying.
